I could’ve named this episode Don’t Quit or Stay in the race, but I decided on Show Up because that seems to be the hurdle I face.
It isn’t a lack of planning or preparation. I just sometimes don’t show up.
Does this sound familiar? I can’t tell you how many proverbial marathons I trained for and didn’t show up.
I knew I had a fear of failure…but I had not expected that I was equally afraid of success!
- I don’t know what causes this fear. Maybe we Self sabotage- because we fear change or Attention or it seems your potential for falling harder increases the higher you climb.
- Fear of not having enough time.
- Fear of not living up to our potential, looking back on your life and realizing that you wasted it doing things that you didn’t love,
- Fear of wasting time doing things we don’t need to do.
All of these things are plausible. What matters is what we can do about it.
- I don’t see a finish line. I see other podcasters who have trained harder and have more natural abilities. I see their endless streams of ideas and even more raving reviews. I’m still here. Are you still here?
- I want to encourage you to show up for yourself. I don’t have any answers to explain the psychology behind these fears of failure or success. But I know this:
Remember this:
- We can show up!
- Set mini goals.
- Share them.
- Find answers to counter your fears by using a mundane task like coloring to take your mind off the negative talk loop. I find this helps to allow other, friendlier ideas to take their place.
