Chicken gourd crafts…
My harvest of gourds has been setting on the porch for months and I finally mustered the energy to clean them up and spruce them up!
I was inspired by the fun chickens that we have running around our place. There is never a shortage of inspiration from these tiny hens who appear to be chatting and sometimes even gossiping.
Steps:
- Sand the gourd to get any dust off, so the paint will adhere. (use a dust mask)
- Wash the gourd with warm water. Let dry.
- Use regular ol’ acrylic paints. You’ll want to use lots of bright colors. I like this acrylic paint variety pack
- I found some simple eye tutorials on Pinterest that really made these sweeties come to life.
- Finally, I made the beaks, feet, wattles, and combs out of polymer clay. You can find a nice sample pack with a variety of colors to use in other crafts. I used E6000 to glue them on, but any craft glue will do.
- Add your special touches like the simple wire eyeglasses or add stickers.
NOTE: if you are going to display these outdoors, you should give them a quick coat of spray sealant.
